Introduction

    I am a lover of butterflies, of the great variety of colors and shapes that they have on their wings, I think they are magical and beautiful, I wanted to be inspired by them and bring them to this color contest, in a very fun way and with materials that we have in stock. home, this project is for children and how they can have fun with the colored shadows that will reflect with the sun.         

    Of course, adults can enjoy them too!

Supplies

Materials:

Cardboard 

Colored cellophane paper (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple) 

Scissors 

Pencil Marker

Cutter

Glue stick Tracing paper

Step 1:

    Choose a type of butterfly that you want to make and how big you want it. I was inspired by monarch butterflies so I made a design where I could incorporate the 6 colors of the rainbow.

Step 2:

    Print the design and with the help of scissors cut out the design and join the pieces. I did it separately since I have a printer that only prints letter or legal size.

Step 3:

    With the help of glue stick, join piece number 1 with number 2, and then join piece number 3 with the two previous pieces as shown in the images.

Step 4:

    I did this part the old-fashioned way with tracing paper, I drew half of the butterfly and with the help of a pencil I made the entire edge and then I turned it around and traced one of the butterfly wings on the cardboard. 

    Then do the same process but mirror the other wing to complete the butterfly.

Step 5:

    When we have the design on the cardboard, cut the edge of our butterfly with a cutter.

Step 6:

    With a lot of patience and being careful not to cut your fingers, cut the divisions inside the butterfly.

Step 7:

    We paint the wings the color we want or we can simply leave them the color of the cardboard, personally I chose to paint them white so that the colors stand out more, we could do this with a brush, I used a piece of foam and I did it by touches So I think it would take less time and it looks great. 

Step 8:

 Now we will use cellophane paper, this paper brings color but is translucent, this will help the colors to reflect when the sun passes.

In this order of ideas we will start with the color red, which I will use in the heart and the first two spaces, then we will continue with the color orange, then the yellow, the green and then the blue, these will be done in each of the spaces following the order of the rainbow, until reaching the purple one which will end twice, as can be seen in photo number 7 of this step.

    When we have cut all the colored papers, we will glue them with glue stick in the cut out spaces in the wings.

Step 9:

    The pattern I left for download is designed for children from one to two years old, so if we have older children, cut the pattern in half separating the two wings and add a cardboard extension. This will be the size we need according to the measurement of the child's back.

    Finally, add a cord to attach the wings to the child's body.

Step 10:

 Here we have beautiful rainbow-colored butterfly wings with which our children can enjoy imaginary play, go out on a sunny day and let the sun do its magic, and our children will be amazed by the bright colors and how they match their silhouette.
