Why do I never seem to have wrapping paper when I need it? I pick up gifts at the store, but I always seem to forget to purchase the wrapping paper along with it. However, tissue paper is a staple in my gift wrapping box. Since I use it in boxes and gift bags, I typically have a variety of colors at all times. After not having wrapping paper when I needed it in several instances, I started using tissue paper to wrap presents. It took a few times of trial and error, but tissue paper is now one of my go-to tricks for wrapping gifts. Here are a few tips for wrapping gifts for tissue paper.

TISSUE PAPER SIZE

Wrapping gifts with tissue paper works best with gifts that are smaller than the tissue paper size. Larger gifts can be done, but in this case, I tape tissue paper together.

For smaller gifts, I will often cut the tissue paper in half. I typically also wrap the tissue paper a few times around the gift to make the paper more durable and less see-through. For this reason, I do not cut the paper down until I have wrapped it around the gift a few times.

TISSUE PAPER COLOR

Darker color tissue paper will cover packaging better than lighter color tissue paper. Lighter colors may be used (such as white or cream), but use multiple tissue papers, or, if the gift is small enough, wrap the gift a few times in the paper.

WRAP OR ROLL

Depending on the gift size or shape, you can wrap the gift like a traditional gift or roll it like a candy wrapper. If wrapping like a traditional gift, you can layer a few pieces of tissue paper before wrapping. For rolling, the piece of tissue paper will serve as its own layer. Be sure to have a good pair of scissors on hand!

USE COORDINATING BAKER’S TWINE OR RIBBON

My favorite way to spruce up tissue paper wrapped gifts is with a coordinating baker’s twine or ribbon.

Take care when transporting tissue paper wrapped gifts. Tissue paper wrapped gifts are more fragile that using regular wrapping paper. I personally like the way the paper looks when it crinkles a bit (not ripping, but crinkled).
