By 1998, the world's consumption of
felt sheets had reached 2.4 million tons. In 1970, its consumption was only 400000 tonnes, and by 2007 it is expected to reach 4 million tonnes. Manufacturers of non-woven fabrics are concentrated in the United States (41 percent of the world), Western Europe (30 percent), Japan (8 percent) and China (3.5 percent of the world's output), while consuming 17.5 percent of the world's.
Man-made fibres still dominate the production of
color felt, and that will not change much until 2007. Throughout the world, 63% of the fibers used in the production of non-woven fabrics are polypropylene, 23% are polyester, 8% are viscose, 2% are acrylic fibers, 1.5% are polyamides, and the remaining 3% are other fibers.
Non-woven fabric in sanitary absorption materials, medicine, transportation, footwear textile materials should be increased significantly.
