Tips for Using Glitter Paper
2024-02-04 12:07
Nothing adds pizzazz to your cards like glitter paper! A little goes a long way but do you ever find it dulling your cutting blades or that your adhesives just aren’t sticking to it? Here are some tips to help you use glitter paper to it’s fullest potential.

Stampin’ Up! calls it Glimmer Paper but no matter what you call it the surface feels and shines like glitter. It’s got a rough texture that can sometimes be tough to work with. Here’s what I’ve found works the best.

Tips for Using Glitter Paper:

  • When cutting your glitter paper turn it UPSIDE DOWN so that the smooth back side is up. That will help keep your cutting blades sharp and make the cutting go smoother so you can keep your lines straight.
  • If possible, I also recommend you keep a cutting blade just for your glitter paper. I take an older blade and write a “D” on it with a sharpie so I know that it is a duller blade. It might rough up the edges of my plain card stock but it’s perfect for cutting glitter paper and keeps my newer blades sharp.
  • Since glitter paper is a little heavier you’ll want to use a stronger adhesive.
  • It can also be tricky to get adhesive to stick to the top of your glitter paper. Stampin’ Dimensionals work great. Be sure to press down firmly on each dimensional so that it will stay stuck to the glitter paper.

Now let’s take a closer look at this card because like I said, a little glitter paper goes a long way!

Whisper White card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Whisper White: 2″ x 3″, 4″ x 5-1/4″
Glitter Paper: 1/2″ x 4″

To let the glitter paper shine on this card I only used Whisper White card stock. I just love how it POPS! It really creates a blank canvas for the colorful glitter paper. I eyeballed the distance between my glitter paper strips but making my card on grid paper really helped me keep everything lined up.

I continued the colors from my glitter paper into my beach umbrella. The umbrella was stamped in Basic Black Archival ink and colored in with a blender pen and the ink pooled in the lid of my ink pads. The glitter paper & umbrella colors are Mint Macaron, Sweet Sugarplum and Bermuda Bay.

For the sand under the umbrella I used an Aqua Painter and Crumb Cake ink. I just wasn’t getting the look I wanted with the blender pen. Here’s a bonus tip for you: Blender Pens are better for coloring in detailed images like the umbrella and Aqua Painters are better for creating watercolored backgrounds.

I hope that this card inspires you and that these tips help you to use more of your glitter paper. Go ahead, pull some out and make a card.

Happy Stamping!
