Paper Sun
12 steps to make a paper sun
Tools:
Scissor
Glue
Pencil
Steps:
1. Prepare the paper.
Start out with any rectangular sheet of
orange paper (e.g. A4, Letter size, or 9" x 12").
2. Fold down one top corner.
Fold one top corner down to meet the opposite edge, forming a triangle.
3. Trim the excess paper.
Cut the excess paper below the triangle.
4. Fold the triangle in half.
Fold the triangle in half to come up with a smaller triangle.
5. Divide the triangle into 3 sections.
Turn the triangle so that the solid corner (the corner corresponding to the paper's center) is at the bottom. Divide the triangle into 3 equal sections, each with a 30 degree angle. The most accurate way to do this is to use a protractor. If you don't have a protractor, you can estimate the size of the sections as you do Steps 6 and 7.
6. Fold the left section.
Fold the triangle's left section towards the front.
7. Fold the right section.
Similarly fold the right section towards the front.
8. Cut along the horizontal edge.
Flip the entire shape over so that the side with the horizontal edge is facing front. Cut along the horizontal edge so that you come up with a wedge.
9. Draw and cut out a "V".
Draw a "V" connecting the top corners of the wedge. The taller you draw your "V", the longer your sun's rays will be. Cut along the line.
Carefully unfold the paper to reveal a sun with twelve rays.
11. Make a yellow circle.
To make the sun's round center, draw a circle on yellow paper. Make the circle slightly smaller than the twelve-rayed sun. You can easily draw a circle using a compass. If you don't have a compass, find a plate or bowl that fits inside your paper sun. Draw a circle by tracing around the edges of the plate or bowl.
Cut out the yellow circle. Glue it at the center of the sun.
12. Add a face.
Draw a face on your sun, if you like. You can also glue on a pair of wiggle eyes and a yarn mouth.
